What is Baby Massage?

Massage is used to promote relaxation and help with both physical and emotional needs.
 
Baby massage is a beneficial way to spend time with a baby, for both parties. Touch stimulates the body to produce Oxytocin and, therefore, may encourage relaxation and a feeling of well being.
 
Anyone can learn the techniques required for Baby Massage including; mums, dads, grandparents, aunts and uncles, carers etc........
Benefits of Baby Massage.

There are many benefits to Baby Massage and these may include;

* Relief from common ailments including; colic, trapped wind, teething pain and sinus congestion.
* The use of oils may improve skin conditions like cradle cap, dry skin and eczema.
* Better sleep, quality and length etc.
* Strengthening of the body’s systems including the respiratory and circulatory systems.
* Improvements in digestion and elimination.
* Improved sensory awareness such as hand and eye coordination.
* Promotes and improves the bond between child and parent/carer etc.
* Reduction in pain and increase in feeling of well-being.

Benefits may be experienced by the person/s carrying out the massage too, such as;

* Reduced Blood Pressure.
* Increased production of endorphins, therefore a better sense of well-being.
* Improved relationship between you and the baby/child.
* Reduction in the effects of post-natal depression.
* Encourages relaxation.


Baby Massage Sessions.

You will need to attend 3-4 sessions to learn all of the techniques and routine for Baby Massage.
 
Each session lasts approximately an hour.
 
You will need to bring:
* Two towels (big enough to cover the child)
* Spare nappies
* Baby wipes
 
After the sessions.
 
After each session you will be given a handout detailing what has been covered and with notes on for you to follow.
 
By the end of your training sessions you should know how to massage your child and be able to carry out a full routine lasting approximately five to ten minutes.

Sessions can be carried out as one-to-ones or in groups.


How about getting a group of friends, and their babies, together and taking it in turns to host a Baby Massage session???
